Vaiyasaki das

Vaiyasaki Prabhu is an internationally recognized musician and follower of the bhakti tradition, known for his skills in the traditional art of kirtan and bhajan. He was born in London and grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. After years in the music industry, he encountered the Hare Krishna movement in 1973. Two years later, in 1975, he took initiation from his spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

At the request of his guru, he traveled to India in 1975. He toured the entire Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. In 1978, he arrived in Bangladesh, where he learned to speak Bengali fluently and deeply immersed himself in the local culture. During a boat journey on the Meghna River, he encountered a local kirtan group heading to a festival. This meeting inspired him to dedicate himself to the ancient Bengali art of raga-kirtan, which profoundly impacted his soul. After returning to London, he introduced his own style of kirtan, combining ancient Bengali elements with modern music.

His first album was released in 1982, followed by several other CDs, which are now considered pivotal in the genre of music for yoga and mantra meditation. His albums include The Way of Love, Charana Kamala, Kirtan Rasa, Harinamananda, Transcendence, Vrindavan Chandra, Chaitanya Chandra, Ratha Yatra USA, The Turning Point, Best of Vaiyasaki, Sri Krishna Divya Nam, and Kirtan Explosion.

Vaiyasaki Prabhu is a sought-after performer who leads workshops, concerts, and participates in yoga festivals and spiritual retreats around the world. Sharing his heart through music and singing is the foundation of his life. Throughout his career, he has visited 64 countries. His deep knowledge of Indian bhajans and kirtans has laid the foundation for a new generation of artists in the growing genre of music for yoga and mantra meditation.
